Water movement in the reef aquarium is very important. Many of the sessile inhabitants are incapable of any significant movement. These animals rely on the motion of water in the aquarium to deliver food and remove their waste. Water flow also increases gaseous exchange, provides optimum flushing of mucus, decreases the chances of disease and keeps any sediment in suspension for removal. Providing correct water circulation in the aquarium, is possibly only seconded by lighting requirements for the majority of sessile reef aquarium inhabitants.
The manufacturers below all offer various equipment for providing water circulation, from the humble powerhead, to Tunze Stream pumps with electronic wave making controllers.
